Sumiao Hunan Kitchen will be tapping some of the world’s most ancient spirits and spices when it shakes up two new specialty cocktails this March. All month, the beverage team at SHK will infuse ginger into modern interpretations of classic libations while incorporating secret Chinese twists to the delight of palates. The “ginger” theme is inspired by Sumiao Hunan’s Kitchen’s dedicated support of Joslin Diabetes Center’s Asian American Diabetes Initiative (AADI); the two will host “A Pinch of Ginger” event at Sumiao Hunan Kitchen on March 25, a preview evening to the nonprofit’s annual “A Taste of Ginger” event.
HONG-KONG MULE:
Available for only $5 in March, the Hong-Kong Mule puts baijiu in the spotlight. With its billion-strong fan base in China making it the best-selling liquor in the world, baijiu is little understood in the Western world making this a must-try cocktail for the spirits enthusiast. A clever recreation of a Moscow mule, SHK’s Hong-Kong Mule marries HKB Hong-Kong baijiu and hibiscus liqueur that is topped off with ginger beer and a splash of fresh lime, garnished with fresh mint springs and a lime wedge
THE EMPEROR:
While some say secrets are no fun, this might change your mind. In March, Sumiao Hunan Kitchen is letting people in on some classified information: the reveal of their secret cocktail menu. Available by request only for those “in the know,” one of the standouts includes The Emperor ($14), created with muddled fresh ginger and lime, Peloton de la Muerte Mezcal, Don Julio tequila, Crème Yvette, hibiscus liqueur, agave nectar and lime reduction that is delicately garnished with a mint leaf.
