Boston’s iconic South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade — one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the country — returns Sunday, March 15 at 11:30am, as Southie joins the citywide celebrations of the 250th anniversary of Evacuation Day in 2026. This year the parade will run in reverse compared to recent years, restoring the historic route that traces the path Henry Knox used to haul cannons through the neighborhood in 1776 to fortify Dorchester Heights — a move that forced the British evacuation of Boston and secured the first major American victory of the Revolutionary War.

Parade history:
Bostonians were the first to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in North America. On March 17, 1737, as a gesture of solidarity among the city’s new Irish immigrants, Boston’s Irish community joined together in festivities of their homeland and to honor the memory of the below Patron Saint of Ireland.
