Online music publication Sound of Boston is celebrating five years of covering Boston's music scene with three local favorites:
9 PM - Aburey Haddard
10 PM - Latrell James
11 PM - Floyd Fuji
_____ Aubrey Haddard _____
This local songstress has flexed her vocal chops as frontwoman for a wide variety of bands, including funk act The New Review. Now, she explores a calmer sound, wrapping honest stories in raw, lo-fi soul. Haddard's vocals can bring to mind the textured softness of Lianne La Havas, and her debut album is like flipping through an an auditory scrapbook of familiar feelings.
_____ Latrell James _____
Even before Latrell James landed a song in a nationally-syndicated Cheerios commercial, he was known around town as one of the best lyricists—and most versatile producers. James brings a bit of everything to the stage: melodic, everyman rap, boom bap, and beats you can bob to.
_____ Floyd Fuji _____
In his current project, Floyd Fuji, Kyle Thornton takes a laid-back approach to soul music. If you’re a fan of funk but appreciate looser arrangements a la D’Angelo that are spiked with electric guitar, you’ll be down with Floyd Fuji.
