Join us for our season-opening concert featuring the sacred and secular music of Salamone Rossi (c. 1570 -1630)!
Rossi is the only Jewish composers of the Renaissance period whose work we still have access to today, and his settings of the psalms and other sacred texts are remarkable for their Hebrew texts and as rare examples of music from the period written for liturgical use in the synagogue. Alongside Rossi’s sacred works, we’ll sing selections from his madrigals as well as psalm settings by Sweelinck and Mendelssohn.
