Snowy Owls inhabit wide-open coastal sites, and they commonly perch in sand dunes. These owls have been frequent visitors to the one of the most beautiful wildlife refuges in Massachusetts, so join us in Ipswich as we hike the beach in search of these magnificent birds. Unlike most owls, snowy owls are diurnal—they hunt and are active both day and night – so we have a good chance of sighting one even in the daylight hours!
Please note: We will be hiking up and down dunes, through soft sand, for approximately 2 ½ - 3 miles. You must wear winter-appropriate clothing (wool socks, layers, no jeans, warm shoes, hat, and gloves). Don't forget to bring a small bottle of water and a snack as needed.
Sorry in advance - no furry friends allowed.
