Join the Creative Somerville Series in one of our monthly 'fireside chats’ with Heidi Shalek and Maren Kravitz of the The Training Room.


Heidi Shalek and Maren Kravitz are the founders of the The Training Room, an independent fitness studio with two locations in Somerville. Shalek and Kravitz met in 2007 while working at a large corporate gym, and opened The Training Room in 2009 with a mission to increase client success rates and accountability by shifting the emphasis away from a membership-based gym model. The Training Room, which received a Best of Boston award in 2012, has become known for its tight-knit community, its emphasis on personalized accountability, and its simple and fresh design. Shalek and Kravitz will speak about building their business through the recession into a studio with regularly sold-out classes and eleven full-time personal trainers. They will discuss their fitness philosophy, how it has evolved, and how to move from a short-term “getting in shape” mindset to a deeper commitment to lifelong health and well-being.
