Slow flow is all about grounding, stable energy. The focus is primarily on balance and safe alignment. In a typical Slow Flow class, you will practice about half the number of poses you might practice in a Flow class. The pace is meditative, emphasizing peace and calm in body and mind. We hold poses longer, taking several rounds of breath in each pose, instead of moving to each breath.

Learn about your instructor

Laura arrived in Boston via Chicago and Florida. She earned her 200 Hour Teacher training in December 2017 from Lexington Power Yoga after experiencing injuries in pursuit of various physical activities, most notably recreational circus arts. She is knowledgeable in various yoga styles including Vinyasa, Slow Flow, Adaptive, Gentle, Chair, and Restorative Yoga in addition to being Mat Pilates certified. She has domestic and international teaching experience and you can find her teaching in and around Boston. She will guide you through a complete mindbody practice with a focus on anatomy and safe alignment. Expect your practice to include elements of grounding, strength, stretching, balance, core conditioning, and quiet meditation, tailored to the needs and preferences of students.

FAQ

Am I doing it right?

There are infinite ways to practice yoga poses, and thus, “right” is somewhat subjective. In fact, the classical yogic texts rarely even mention physical poses, let alone precise instructions for how to do them. Over the course of your practice, you will learn posture variations so that you can make wise choices in class or in your at-home practice. For more on “doing it right” check out our blog post on why you can stop worrying and love the process.

How do I prepare for class?

Class begins right on time; please arrive early. Clear your space and silence distractions so that you can get the most out of the experience. Check the class description to see if you will need any props. Wear comfortable clothes that you can move and breathe in. Refrain from eating for about one hour before practice.

I’ve never tried yoga or meditation before. Is this right for me?

Yes! Yoga and meditation are learned by doing the practice itself, not by prior study. The best way to overcome the fear of the unknown is to dive right in. You are most welcome to ask questions before and after class.
