When winter hits East Cambridge, Timothy J. Toomey, Jr. Park becomes a go-to neighborhood sledding spot—and that’s no accident. As part of the park’s original planning and design, urban planners intentionally shaped the landscape to include a smooth, gently pitched hill specifically for sledding, creating year-round recreational value in a compact urban space. In warmer months it functions as open lawn for play and picnics, but once it snows, the hill transforms into a perfectly scaled sled run that’s fun for kids, approachable for families, and ideal for quick winter laps without leaving the city.
