You may have heard about unconscious or implicit bias, but aren’t quite sure what it is or have a rudimentary understanding of it. At its core, unconscious bias is just what it sounds like. Bias that we don’t consciously register. In this interactive workshop, we’ll walk you through its meaning and show you several types of unconscious biases that can play out specifically in the workplace. You’ll walk away with a strong grasp of unconscious bias – yes, this means you won’t be able to unsee bias, which we promise, is a good thing!
Agenda:
5:30pm-6:00pm – Registration
6:00pm-7:30pm – Workshop
*The event is on the 5th floor of CIC Boston, in the Meridian meeting room*
Who should attend?
Anyone interested in learning more about unconscious bias – All genders are welcome!
About the facilitator
Fatima Dainkeh is the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Facilitator for She+ Geeks Out, specializing in topics about racism, sexism and the intersectionality of social identities. Fatima has facilitated conversations and conducted trainings with leaders and members of schools, organizations and companies to help raise equity consciousness, while also providing knowledge, tips and strategies to help support institutional change. As a facilitator who believes in the power of sharing our stories, Fatima uses storytelling as a platform for individuals and groups to connect with one another. This form of facilitation has led Fatima to co-produce a short film and launch a photo story project about the experience of Black Mothers in Boston and beyond. Fatima believes that things can shift between individuals or within an institution when people can begin to connect and understand each other.
Fatima Dainkeh received her MPH in Community Assessment, Program Design, Implementation and Evaluation (CAPDIE) and Maternal and Child Health from Boston University School of Public Health, and earned her BA in Religious Studies and Anthropology from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. In her free time, she is a storyteller and photographer.
