Greater Ashmont Main Street and Mandorla Music Series are very pleased to co-present the 2018-2019 bimonthly Dot Jazz Series at Peabody Hall in the The Parish of All Saints in Dorchester. Doors open at 7pm and the $15 ticket includes dessert, as well as non-alcoholic beverages. Wine will be available as well.

On November 8th, we're very pleased to present vocalist Semenya McCord. Though now based in Illinois, Semenya McCord was a critical part of the jazz scene in Boston for decades and maintains strong ties to the area scene. Daughter of the late singer/guitarist Ken Henderson, she started her graduate study at University of Massachusetts Amherst, working with Horace C. Boyer, Max Roach, and Archie Shepp. While in Amherst, she composed 19 songs for the play “Tomorrow Has Been Here and Gone,” and composed and recorded the title song for Shepp’s 1975 'Trumpet In My Soul.'

She was awarded “Outstanding Jazz Vocalist” by the Boston Music Awards in 1988 and received the “Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for Musical Excellence” in 1990 from the City of Boston. Semenya will be joined by Frank Wilkins, piano; Daniel Day, bass; Alvin Terry, drums; Jeff Lockhart, guitar; and Bobby Tynes, reeds.
