Second Chances is an exhibit by artists: Christine Anderson, Carol Flax, Lorraine Gentile Haynes, Lisa Horton, Toni Newhall, Nicole Goldman and Jackie deRuyter who each seek to expand the definition of fiber art by integrating unexpected materials and methods that create unique works of art that are outside the scope of those normally expected in the genre. In this way, the group challenges conventional thinking and expands the conversation of what fiber art can encompass.
The core group of Cape Cod women have been creating art for years while also balancing family and careers. They created pieces geared towards rebirth, re-evaluation and restoration. The title of the exhibit, ‘Second Chances’ also defines the transformation of Highfield Hall which was almost demolished in the 1990s.
