Screening of: Gurumbé Afroandalusian Memories (in Spanish with English subtitles) Featuring Flamenco Performance by Yinka Graves
Gurumbé explores Spanish participation in the slave trade from the 15th century onward. It details historical research that has uncovered the often ignored influence of African descendants on Spanish culture. Gurumbé shows the important role played by the slave trade in building modern Spain as well as cultural legacy left by the black population, particularly in the evolution of Flamenco music and dance.
