Science by the Pint is a free science café in which we invite a Boston-area research lab out to a pub or brewery to chat science over a cold one. The events are geared toward a general audience – all are welcome and no experience is necessary!

Our speaker will give a brief overview of her/his research and answer all of your questions. After that, the rest of the lab – grad students, postdoctoral researchers, research assistants, etc. – will rotate around the tables to have small-group, informal conversations about what they're working on.

This week's event features Dr. Psyche Loui, an Assistant Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience & Behavior at Wesleyan University. Human beings of all ages and cultures perceive, produce, and enjoy music, and yet the science of how the brain enables musical experience is just beginning. Dr. Loui will describe recent studies that use musical behavior and brain imaging to investigate several integrated functions of the human brain: from pitch perception and production, to emotion and cognition, and ultimately to the remarkable ability of the human brain to be creative.
