Festivities begin at 5:00 p.m. when Kids’ Space opens, an area filled with free face painting, games, and crafts for little ones. Also at 5:00 p.m. DITTO will entertain the crowd on the main stage. Lead vocalists and guitarists Gary Santarella and Roger Kimball have entertained audiences for over forty years and play mainstream music classics of James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel, Crosby Stills and Nash, and more. There are food vending tents on site selling hot dogs, French fries, fried dough, kettle corn, and other favorites. At 7:15 p.m. opening ceremonies begin led by Mayor Kimberly Driscoll and Salem Veterans and Salem Boy Scout Color Guards. The singing of the National Anthem will be performed by Salem High School’s a cappella group Witch Pitch? followed by a two-hour ‘POPS’ concert by the Hillyer Festival Orchestra, a forty-piece ensemble featuring vocal soloist Jacyn Tremblay with a special intermission show featuring the Salem Collins Middle School Chorus. At 9:15 p.m. a magnificent fireworks display is launched from Derby Wharf accompanied by live music from the orchestra.
