Roxbury Community College (RCC) is holding a once-in-a-lifetime, three day 50th Anniversary Homecoming Celebration on the RCC campus from Thursday May 11 - Saturday May 13. All events will be held at Roxbury Community College 1234 Columbus Ave, Boston.
On Thursday May 11 at 4pm at the Media Arts Center, former State Senator Dianne Wilkerson will be leading a panel discussion with five distinguished RCC alumni about the importance of community colleges and RCC’s crucial role as New England’s only Predominantly Black Institution.
On Friday May 12 at 1pm, the Roxbury Community College Commencement Ceremony will take place at Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. The achievements of the 157 graduating members of the RCC Class of 2023 will be honored as they receive their diplomas. The ceremony will include speeches by keynote speaker Chancellor David C. Banks, who leads the New York City Public Schools, the largest school system in the nation; RCC Interim President Jackie Jenkins-Scott, who was recently named one of Boston Magazine’s 150 Most Influential Bostonians; and student speaker Haqikah Greaves, who is being recognized for her leadership in student government, her academic accomplishments and her perseverance in earning her degree while becoming a first time mother.
On Saturday May 13 the Homecoming festivities will include a Community Block Party from 12pm-6pm with food trucks, activities, over 15 local vendors and a drum line performance by Hamilton-Garrett Center for Music & Arts. The RCC Media Arts Center will host a 1pm Step Show by OrigiNation Cultural Arts Center , a 4pm screening of two films followed by a panel discussion, and at 7:30pm a Night of Hip-hop featuring live performances by Red Shaydez, REKS, Edo. G, and BAMS Fest managing director Paul Willis.
