The next concert in the Folk, Americana & Roots Music Series will feature performances by Rodney Crowell, Brandy Clark and the North Mississippi Allstars at the Boch Center Shubert Theatre on Tuesday, April 9. Artists will play with an acclaimed house band featuring Duke Levine on guitar (Aimee Mann, Peter Wolf, Mary Chapin Carpenter); Russ Pahl on guitar (Dan Auerbach, Leon Russell, T-Bone Burnett); Charlie Giordano on piano and accordion (Bruce Springsteen, Pat Benatar, Rosanne Cash); Jesse Williams on bass (Al Kooper, Susan Tedeschi, Maria Muldaur); and Marco Giovino on drums, Musical Director (Robert Plant, Buddy Miller, Norah Jones).

The Boch Center launched the Folk, Americana & Roots Music Series in 2018 to celebrate the genre’s rich musical history and influence. The series seeks to spotlight iconic and emerging artists and introduce new audiences to the genre. At the April 9 concert, each artist will play a short individual set with backing from the house band and later unite on stage for a memorable group performance. The evening will also feature emerging artist Hayley Reardon, a folk singer-songwriter from Massachusetts, and will be emceed by singer-songwriter Chuck McDermott.

Rodney Crowell has written 15 #1 songs on the Country music charts and has won two GRAMMYS. His latest album, Acoustic Classics, was released to critical acclaim in 2018. Throughout his career, Crowell has also won six Americana Music Awards, including the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting, and is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. His songs have been recorded by country legends (Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, George Strait), to current country chart toppers (Tim McGraw, Keith Urban) to blues icons (Etta James) and rock and roll legends (Van Morrison, Bob Seger).

Warner Brothers recording artist Brandy Clark received her first of an impressive six career GRAMMY nominations in 2013 in the Best Country Song category for co-writing the Miranda Lambert No. 1 hit “Mama’s Broken Heart.” Her talent as a storyteller has quickly propelled her into critical acclaim as one of Nashville’s best tunesmiths. She has written songs for Sheryl Crow, The Band Perry, Reba McEntire, LeAnn Rimes, Billy Currington, Darius Rucker and Kacey Musgraves to name a few. This past year Clark has been honing her craft on the road playing with the likes of Willie Nelson, Brandi Carlile, Dwight Yoakam and Sugarland.

Founded in 1996 by brothers Luther (guitar and vocals) and Cody Dickinson (drums, piano, synth bass, programming and vocals), the North Mississippi Allstars are entering their third decade with perhaps the most vital album of their career. Prayer for Peace sees the Dickinsons weaving their bred-to-the-bone musical sensibility with unstoppable energy, rhythmic reinvention and a potent message of positivity, family and hope. Their songs pay homage to the country blues legacy while simultaneously pushing it into contemporary relevance with fatback funk, electronic innovation, slippery soul and pure unadulterated rock ‘n’ roll.
