In May of 1854 a man named Anthony Burns was arrested under the Fugitive Slave Law. Following the arrest, a meeting was held at Faneuil Hall with over 5,000 Bostonians in attendance to decide how the city of Boston would respond.

At 3:00 pm on November 3, please join us for a historic reenactment of this debate surrounding the Fugitive Slave Law. The event will be held in the Great Hall of Faneuil Hall, where the Burns meeting took place 164 years ago. Using the words of those who lived in Boston in 1854, we will explore how individuals responded to a law that truly divided the nation.

The program is free and 30 minutes in length.

It will be followed by a free walking tour of Anthony Burns' Boston led by a National Park Service Ranger.
