Roaring 20’s Night
A 1920’s party and silent film soiree
5-6:30pm: Join us at The Paper Mouse Atelier for a Roaring 20’s party! Enjoy music, refreshments and a photo booth as you craft your own fascinators, masquerade masks and moustaches for a Gatsby-worthy evening. Costumes are welcomed!
7:00 pm: The West Newton Cinema will present an evening of classic silent films by Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, accompanied by world-class Canadian pianist Bruce Vogt.
The Cure (Charlie Chaplin - 1917)
An alcoholic checks into a health spa and his antics promptly throw the establishment into chaos. (24 minutes)
The Immigrant (Charlie Chaplin - 1917)
Charlie is an immigrant who endures a challenging voyage and gets into trouble as soon as he arrives in America. (24 minutes)
Sherlock Jr. (Buster Keaton - 1924)
A film projectionist longs to be a detective, and puts his meagre skills to work when he is framed by a rival for stealing his girlfriend's father's pocket watch. (45 minutes)
Bruce Vogt is an internationally acclaimed soloist and chamber musician, and Professor at the University of Victoria. He is also an enthusiastic champion of the great films of the silent era and has improvised accompaniments for and lectured on films by Chaplin, Keaton, Lloyd, Griffith, Murnau and others.
