The Guild of Boston Artists is proud to present Refuge: Paintings by J.C. Airoldi in the Presidents' Gallery of its Newbury street location from October 8 - 29. Comprised of almost 40 landscape paintings, each softly rendered and imbued with serene beauty, the exhibition takes us on a journey through the eyes of an artist that has found both a plein-air studio and a spiritual sanctuary in the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island as well as in the national parks and nature reserves up and down the New England coast.
The show, however, is as much about feeling as it is about place. Speaking of her artistic philosophy and motivation, Airoldi explains, "I feel so fortunate to witness ordinary scenes made extraordinary by light and atmosphere... and then to set out to capture the spirit of my experience in my work. It is my life’s ambition to convey more than just the visual through my work, but to awaken the other senses as well...to rekindle and experience over and over again the smell of the salt air, the feel of warm sand grains slipping through my toes, the sound of reeds rustling in the wind. I want you to feel as I have felt; the motion of drifting clouds, first light creeping over the land, sparkles on the sea - serenity and contentment."
J.C. Airoldi is often drawn to the beauty of breaking storms and her work likewise offers a glimpse of hope in a turbulent world. Practice some much needed self-care this month by visiting this solo exhibition, and find a place of refuge in the heart of Boston at the Guild of Boston Artists.
