Lexington Battle Green (Lexington Common)
Massachusetts Ave & Bedford St
Lexington, MA 02421
Date Idea, Festivals & Fairs
This event recreates the historic skirmish in Lexington on the first day of the American Revolution. Following the ringing of the bell in the Old Belfry, members of the Lexington Training Band (now known as the Minutemen) gather on Lexington Green to await the column of British Regulars as they march into the town center.
A shot rings out, the skirmish follows, and the British column marches on towards Concord leaving dead and wounded behind. Please see the Town of Lexington’s Schedule of Events for important details and restrictions on backpacks, large containers and ladders: http://www.lexingtonma.gov/celebrations/2014Patriots'DaySchedule.pdf
The schedule of events for Patriots' Day weekend includes a full range of activities including several battle reenactments, parades, the Liberty Ride, historic house tours, pancake breakfasts, and a road race. This year there will be a patriotic performance by the US Army "Old Guard" (3rd Infantry Regiment). Other events occur in April along Battle Road.
The reenactment of the Battle of Lexington, performed by members of the Lexington Minute Men Company and His Majesty's Tenth Regiment of Foot, is staged annually at 5:30 A.M. on Monday morning. This event evokes the revolutionary spirit that signaled the start of the American Revolution.
Other events during Patriots' Day week include a concert by the US Air Force Heritage of America Concert Band at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014 in Battin Hall in Cary Memorial Building. Concert is free but tickets are required.
