The City of Boston, Highland Street Foundation and the Boston Red Sox today announced "Out of the Park," a series of three, free special events featuring Red Sox away game screenings at Boston area parks this summer, replete with many of the sights, sounds, and amenities that have come to define the Fenway Park game day experience for generations of New Englanders.

Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh, Highland Street Foundation Trustee David McGrath, and Boston Red Sox President/CEO Larry Lucchino joined more than 40 children from Ellis Memorial and Red Sox Mascot Wally the Green Monster to formally unveil the first-of-its-kind initiative before a backdrop of the picturesque Carousel on Boston Common, America's oldest public park, which will serve as the location for the series' final event.

"Out of the Park" kicks off at Jim Rice Field in Roxbury on Memorial Day weekend on Sunday, May 25, at 2 p.m. as the Red Sox take on the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in St Petersburg, FL.

"Attending a ballgame at Fenway Park is a cherished Boston tradition, and with 'Out of the Park,' it is now one that all Bostonians can enjoy as we bring the sites and sounds of Red Sox baseball to our own historic Boston Parks," said Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh. "Thanks to the Highland Street Foundation and the Boston Red Sox for their continued commitment to providing opportunities that bring families together and allow our youth to share in the experiences that a world-class City such as Boston has to offer."

Each "Out of the Park" event will feature a live viewing of a Red Sox away game, broadcast by the New England Sports Network (NESN) on a massive big screen with cut-ins by a live game announcer. The events will also include many of the signature elements and amenities that can be found in and around Fenway Park and Yawkey Way for a home Red Sox game - including caricaturists, balloon artists, face painters, giveaways, free popcorn, ice cream by Hood and Kayem's famous Fenway Franks. Red Sox Mascot Wally the Green Monster, Fenway Park DJ TJ Connelly, and the Hot Tamales Brass Band will also make special appearances.

"The concept for 'Out of the Park' was born from conversations with Mayor Walsh and the Red Sox on the critical importance of community building," said McGrath. "The idea was a natural fit with Highland Street's objectives of creating access and opportunity for all through engaging programming. We're proud to join with the City and the Red Sox on this initiative, and we hope thousands will join us for the unique opportunity to experience Red Sox baseball in some of Boston's most treasured neighborhood parks."

Families are encouraged to picnic and cheer on the Red Sox during the "Out of the Park" events on the following dates and locations:

Sunday, May 25, 1:40 p.m. at Jim Rice Field in Roxbury
Sunday, June 22 4:05 p.m. at Franklin Park in Dorchester
Sunday, July 27 1:40 p.m. at the Boston Common
"While Fenway Park is the home of Red Sox Nation, we realize that not everyone attends a game as frequently as they like, and we're grateful to Mayor Walsh, the City of Boston, and Highland Street Foundation for suggesting 'Out of the Park' and allowing us to bring the Fenway Park experience directly to Boston's neighborhoods," said Lucchino. "These events will provide an innovative way for Red Sox fans, particularly Red Sox Kid Nation, to catch a game in their own backyard with the sights, sounds, and tastes of our historic ballpark."

"Out of the Park," which is supported by Boston Parks & Recreation, is just one of the many family-focused events and initiatives the Red Sox have developed for the 2014 season, aimed at creating enjoyable and engaging experiences the entire family can enjoy. Other initiatives include Kids Run the Bases, the new Kid Nation Clubhouse, Circus Days, Futures at Fenway, and Calling All Kids month (July).

Highland Street Foundation, which is committed to addressing the needs and concerns of children and families in Massachusetts and California, is funding the "Out of the Park" events. Highland Street Foundation provides access and opportunities in the areas of education, housing, mentorship, health care, environment and the arts. In addition to the "Out of the Park" series, Highland Street Foundation is also running its annual "Free Fun Fridays" summer program that opens doors to 67 of the most treasured cultural venues in Massachusetts beginning June 27th, when between five and seven venues will be open free-of-charge every Friday for 10 weeks, courtesy of Highland Street.
