Midway Gallery is pleased to present Touches of Gray: Portrait Studies in Graphite, a solo exhibition featuring the work of Boston-area artist Raymond MacDonald, curated by Petra Dankova. The exhibition runs from August 1 through September 29, 2026, in the Project Room at Midway Artist Studios. An opening reception will take place on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Touches of Gray features a curated selection of portraits drawn from life during intensive two- to three-hour sessions at the Quincy Art Association (QAA), Boston Figurative Art Center (BFAC), and the Academy of Realist Art (ARA). Through close observation, gestural tonalism, and dynamic mark-making, MacDonald captures the distinct character, mood, and individuality of each subject.
MacDonald was recently honored with selection as an Emerging Artist member by the Copley Society of Art—the oldest continually operating non-profit art association in the United States. His drawing and pastel work earned back-to-back First Place awards in juried exhibitions in 2025 and 2026. In addition to his studio practice, MacDonald serves as a portrait instructor with the Quincy Art Association, where he teaches and facilitates drop-in workshops and live-model sessions at the QArts Gallery. Midway Gallery is open Monday—Sunday, 8 AM—PM.
