Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, one of the only cooperatively run chamber orchestras in the nation, celebrates its 40th season! Conductor Emerita Gisèle Ben-Dor (New York Philharmonic, London Symphony), dubbed a "ferocious talent" by The Los Angeles Times, returns to Pro Arte on our second program, where brass and winds take center stage. Former Pro Arte cooperative musician Jeffrey Work (Oregon Symphony) reprises his performance of American composer Eric Ewazen's expressive Concerto for Trumpet and Strings. Composed in 1998, a subsequent arrangement was written to feature Work for Orchestra, which was premiered by Pro Arte in 2003 and conducted by Ben-Dor. We will revisit this piece with the original performers alongside new cooperative members. French composer Charles Gounod’s 1885 Petite Symphonie which pays charming homage to the Classical-era wind ensembles of the previous century. The incomparable gravity of Ludwig van Beethoven’s iconic Symphony No. 5. brings the program to a triumphant close.
