This focused summer intensive is designed for high school students preparing to apply to BFA, BA, and design programs. You'll build technical skills, explore creative voice & conceptual direction, and learn professional strategies as an artist. Receive daily feedback to help you refine and present your work with confidence, working individually with Damon Lehrer, a working artist and a founder of the Boston Figure, and Halle Cooper, a recent SMFA graduate student.
Limited to 12 participants to allow individualized attention.
Highlights: 1:1 attention and critique, technical and conceptual skill building, portfolio polishing and presentation, life drawing practice.
Schedule:
Monday: Live Model Figure Drawing + 1:1 Reviews
Work from a live model between receiving one-on-one feedback to assess your current portfolio and set goals for the week. Learn strategies for articulating and presenting your work and crafting a compelling artist statement. End with group critique.
Tuesday: Technical Instruction with Live Model
Strengthen foundational techniques through guided drawing exercises by Damon Lehrer. Continue with building language and presentation strategies. End with group critique.
Wednesday: Creative Expression in a New Medium
Take risks, experiment, and expand your artistic voice while exploring new materials and approaches. Discuss artistic voice and conceptual direction. End with group critique.
Thursday: Portfolio Strategy + Final 1:1 Reviews
Continue with drafting and finalizing an artist statement, learn how to sequence your work, and present your portfolio clearly and professionally.
