Porter Square Books will host debut novelist J.R. Thornton for a (book signing/reading event) to introduce his new novel, Beautiful Country. Set against the backdrop of China, a country with ever-growing relevance to our lives, Beautiful Country is a coming-of-age story centered on the friendship of an American and Chinese boy. Singled out for praise by National Book Award Winner, Evan Osnos, Beautiful Country offers a moving, captivating account of an American boy’s life in Beijing. J.R. graduated from Harvard in 2014 where he studied History, English and Chinese. Thornton has been the recipient of the Le Baron Russell Briggs Fiction Prize, Harvard’s Artist Development Fellowship, the Mo Yan Fellowship at Beijing Normal University, and most recently was named in the inaugural class of Schwarzman Scholars.
