The poetry of African Americans has a long, rich history of protest and resistance, beauty and force. Social movements throughout time have used this medium as a way of connecting with and motivating people. Join us for an evening with some of this history's most significant moments and movements, from Phyllis Wheatley to Black Lives Matter. Our speaker, Dr. Keith Jones, will talk about this long history and how it connects to our present day social movements. Dr. Jones is a visiting assistant professor in Africana Studies at UMASS Boston.
