Nathaniel Stookey’s JUNKESTRA is a massive percussion work performed on items rescued from a dump: sewer pipes, deck railings, dresser drawers, bike wheels, saws, bathroom fixtures – even a bird cage. Since its warehouse premiere, the work has been presented to great acclaim by the San Francisco Symphony and the Kennedy Center among others. This will be its New England premiere.


BPeG will also perform works by Steve Reich, Bjork and Radiohead alongside works by local composers John Murphree and Dan VanHassel.

Described as “audacious and impressive” by The Boston Globe, Boston Percussion Group (BPeG) is part new music group and part rock band, challenging the definition of classical music with the use of marimbas, drums, flower pots, and more. With repertoire ranging from Steve Reich and Frank Zappa to Tan Dun and Sufjan Stevens, BPeG presents high-energy performances whether in a concert hall, museum or public park. Comprised of a core group of musicians, BPeG draws inspiration from local composers and other collaborators and has shared their music at festivals and universities throughout New England.

a ticketed, classical-ish performance series taking place the first sunday night of every month at the aeronaut taproom in somerville, shining light on the ridiculous pleasure of collective listening. no stodginess. no competing sound. just sweet, shared silence, beautiful beers, and beautiful people. please stay for an after-party with the artists.
