“Portraits of Boston”
The Street Photography of Ivan Velinov
May 2 – 25, 2014
The gallery at the Piano Craft Guild building is a long running, non-profit exhibition space. Founded in 1972, the arts space has also hosted concerts and talks in a schedule that fills the gallery at all times throughout the year. It serves the many artists who live or have studio space in the former factory converted to residential and work areas and also is used to show the work of artists who live elsewhere.
The festivities spotlight the edgy work of Ivan Velinov, whose focus is the diversity and beauty of everyday Boston. In addition to the photographs, there are snippets of Velinov’s conversations with his randomly selected subjects. His art was recently covered by “The Huffington Post” (www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/portraits-of-boston. ) For a glimpse of the artists work please go to http://portraitsofboston.com/
The new space results from a collaboration of over a nearly 20 year period between Piano Craft Guild building owner Simeon Bruner, the Piano Craft Guild Tenants’ Association, the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA), community leaders, and others. It continues the tradition of being affordable to the artists who exhibit and is always free to the public.
