Phill Argyris Quintet will be performing for the PCA Jazz Series on FEB 9 at the Parish Center for the Arts in Westford. The music of the quintet is clearly defined by a strong connection to the American SongBook and Jazz tradition. Innovative original compositions are part of the group’s core concept and explorations. Swinging hard with a deep focus on melody, the group aspires to offer something for all listeners.
Featuring World-famous saxophone player and educator George Garzone who has appeared on over 20 recordings and has performed with many prominent artists. His group, the Fringe, has been called “One of the genuine living treasures of the Boston jazz scene”. Garzone has guested in many situations, touring Europe with Jamaaladeen Tacuma and performing with Danilo Perez, Joe Lovano, Jack DeJohnette, Rachel Z, and John Patitucci among others. He is a member of the Grammy-winning Joe Lovano Nonet, and performed and recorded with this group at the Village Vanguard.
Phil Grenadier, “ One of jazz’s most imaginative and innovative players” of the trumpet, has developed an impressive list of credits during his 20 year career performing with jazz legends Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Tormé, George Shearing, Tony Bennett, Dionne Warwick and Freddie Hubbard. In 1980 he received honors from the Monterey Jazz Festival, and Outstanding Soloist Awards from Downbeat Magazine in 1981.
