Called “a double fantasy of Nick Drake and Donovan” by Rollingstone and praised for his “lustrous, melancholy voice” by The New York Times, Santa Fe-based songwriter and author David Berkeley has been a guest on This American Life, won the Kerrville New Folk competition and ASCAP’s coveted Johnny Mercer Songwriter Award. On November 2nd, he releases a much-needed set of hopeful political songs, The Faded Red and Blue. If such a description is possible, there’s no one better positioned to pull it off than David Berkeley. In his more than a decade span writing songs, his lyrics are consistently profound and poetic, for which he’s been dubbed a “musical poet” by San Francisco Chronicle. He has authored two books, each of which pairs with one of his albums, and he has a degree from Harvard in literature.
