In 2011, Marc began doing a series of portraits of panhandlers in Harvard Square, a project that produced nearly 60 paintings. CultureHouse will be displaying eight of them for the next month - a small but poignant glimpse into both the lives of our often forgotten neighbors and into Marc's artistic practice. Join us on September 28 at 4pm to mark the opening of CultureHouse's newest exhibit and to hear from the artist himself.

As Marc wrote in the published collection of his paintings, "What began purely as an art project took on a cultural, even a literary life of its own. At first my goals were purely aesthetic and technical; to paint a lot of protraits, almost as an exercise. Later I realized that some of my models wanted to share their stories with me. I began to listen and write their stories down. Each painting therefore comes with its own little narrative, sometimes simple, sometimes complex."
