Guest Speaker - Aqil Sajjad - Intro to Quantam Mechanics - Physics is the study of the laws of nature, and how these laws govern nearly everything we see and do. But when you zoom into the vast world that exists at the sub-atomic level (things smaller than an atom), suddenly the laws that apply in the natural world no longer apply and crazy things start to happen. A different set of laws governs this world, and what happens here is called Quantum Mechanics; it's where nature is probabilistic rather than deterministic. As science learns more about what happens at this level, it is driving many new inventions like lasers and transistors and ultimately helping to feed to the information technology revolution we are witnessing today. Join us for this Pub Talk where we'll discuss how Quantum Mechanics are impacting our modern-day technological revolution. Fear not! This discussion will be tailored specifically for a general audience with no previous background in the subject.
