The upcoming art event will be with Weymouth artist Dennis Doyle. Dennis will talk about his style of painting and will perform a painting demonstration in oils for public, weather permitting he will paint the view of South Street outside the Gallery from 3 to 5pm. If the weather doesn't cooperate Dennis will paint inside the gallery. Public is encouraged to stop by any time, watch him paint, ask questions, listen, talk, and view the display of his paintings on the Gallery Artist Wall. Dennis is one of the Twelve Gallery Artists who get featured for a month throughout the year. Don’t hesitate to stop by, light refreshments will be served.
The month of March 2017 features oil paintings by Dennis Doyle. Dennis, a life-long resident of Weymouth, MA, was educated in public schools and at Massachusetts College of Art. He is a licensed merchant mariner working on tugboats, where he plies his trade upon creeks and rivers, bays and harbors, inland waterways and coastal routes, from Maine to Louisiana. Currently Dennis is employed by Great Lakes Dredge and Dock working with the dredge Illinois doing Superstorm Sandy beach replenishment from Brigantine New Jersey to Shinnecock New York.
“I developed an early affinity for drawing that grew into a lifelong love for painting. My Mass Art tuition was paid with wages earned on the local clam-flats (Weymouth Hingham Hull), and from lobster and gill-net fishing on Stellwagen Bank. I've never had a traditional job and don’t expect I ever will, l am a water-man by trade with a passion for paint.
In 2006 I took a workshop with George Nick, a painter whose work I truly admire. During the workshop I appreciated his energy and these painting mantras that he would run by you...one being something to the like of: "There isn't anything you can't learn to paint" and "just paint what you see". If there is such a thing as a plein-air painting addiction, I have it and I hold George Nick partly responsible, thanks for that.
I have a small studio but I'm hardly ever there except to drop off or fetch some paintings. I prefer to work outside in the elements and before what matters. On the boat my paint bag is a stow away, I am prepared to "chase the light" and answer inspiration's call with a quick painting, anywhere anytime up and down this entire coast. I'm fortunate. Art is interpretation and presentation of this life, and plein-air painting is its body and soul."
