Screencasting is a way of using free software -- and commercial software - that can include the human voice (or webcam video) to create a video with accompanying action of different kinds on the computer screen. This class will explain about the range of options for screencasting -- incuding OBS Studio (free - Linux, Mac, Windows), Screenflow ($129 Mac), Camtasia Studio ($299 Windows), and Camstudio Open Source (free - Windows). Learn best practices and the varied kinds of videos that can be made with screencasting software. Screencasting is not all explanatory - some of it can be advocacy, humor, experimental, etc.
Instructor: Phil Shapiro (Phil works as the public geek at the Takoma Park Maryland Library. He is interested in the use of technology as a tool for community building, digital storytelling, and personal/communal liberation. He has taught screencasting informally and in a graduate educational technology class at American University, in Washington DC.)
