On the Same Page Boston is a diverse and inclusive book access organization that Emerson College students run each semester. They are once again advocating for a Boston Public School that does not have a library. More than 40% of Boston Public School students do not have a library in their schools (Bay State Banner, March 2021) and the Adams Elementary School in East Boston is on this list. The Adams Elementary school student population is very diverse with a high percentage that are first-generation English language learners (ELL). The books that the school currently has for its students lack diversity. Research has proven that when young readers see themselves represented in the stories they read, they want to read more because they feel inspired, empowered and included. Together, we can bring about a positive change for the Adams’ students, changes that will last a lifetime. Since 2019, the organization’s campaigns have ushered 4,500 books into the hands of BPS students. Every student should have the opportunity to be part of a story. To be a part of the story, follow On the Same Page Boston on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok. Visit Onthesamepageboston.org to donate a book today
