Nora Valdez’s solo exhibition Unmoored, explores the recurring themes in her work of home, displacement, belonging in our uncertain times.
The stone sculptures featured in Unmoored are expressions of both personal and collective anxiety in a time of great upheaval, offering the viewer the opportunity to resonate with themes of change, movement, security and insecurity. With no external tethers, these figures suggest the burden of freedom and the need for internal stability. The individual works, which together comprise a cohesive group, inspire self-reflection and questions of personal responsibility in times of transition. In addition to Valdez’s sculptural work, the exhibition features the backdrop of a large drawing, shedding light on Valdez’s artistic process which begins with sketches.
