What happens when jazz and classical meet and mingle? Tribute to former NEC president Gunther Schuller includes performances by NEC's Wind, Contemporary and Percussion Ensembles as well as the NEC Jazz Orchestra.

NEC ensembles covering various genres within the school perform works by the composer who coined the term "Third Stream" and instituted the genre as a program within the school. Curated by NEC faculty and NEC Contemporary Ensemble director, John Heiss, who was hired by Schuller in 1967, the concert highlights Schuller's exploration of the regions where the two musical "streams" of classical and jazz meet and mingle.

Welcome to NEC at 150! Every generation of musicians remake and change New England Conservatory. Some, like Gunther Schuller, continue to influence our music beyond their lifetimes. Others contribute for decades, pushing the sense of what's possible by their own examples. The entire season is stuffed with chances to see the NEC legacy in exceptional, infectious, passionate action. Don't miss them!
