Join us for a performance by Eric Schindler on cello and August Baik on piano as part of the Community Performances and Partnerships program at New England Conservatory. The performance will feature a varied program, including discussion with the artists about themselves and the music. Total program time is about 45 minutes, with 15 minutes for audience Q&A.

Please note that, due to extenuating circumstances, the originally scheduled Trio Nomad is unable to perform.

2023 National MTNA Senior Strings winner Eric Schindler, age 19 from Seattle, Washington enjoys making music as a cello soloist and as both a chamber and orchestral musician. He is currently studying for his bachelor’s degree in cello performance with Laurence Lesser at New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts.

Eric was a member of the Seattle Youth Symphony’s Junior and Senior Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Washington All-State and All-Northwest Symphony Orchestras. He has also performed as a soloist with the Seattle Youth Chamber Orchestra and Philharmonia Northwest Orchestra.

In 2022, Eric was awarded First Place at the final Concerto Playoff Concert for the Performing Arts Festival of the Eastside (PAFE), was awarded the PAFE Frances Walton Artist Award for Cello/Bass, and in the years 2022 and 2023 won First Place at WMEA State Solo & Ensemble Contest for cello. He was a finalist for the 2022 KING FM Young Artist Award, for the NPR show “From The Top,” and for the Seattle Symphony Young Artist award.

Born in Seattle, Washington, 18-year-old August Baik (he/him) studies piano performance with Professor Stephen Drury at the New England Conservatory of Music. He has appeared as a soloist with the Virtuosi Bruneses Orchestra (Perugia, Italy), Cascade Symphony Orchestra, and Bellevue Symphony. Among his recent achievements: Fellow of From the Top, first place winner of The Sherer International Violin and Piano Competition, King FM Young Artist Awards, Golden Key of Vienna Music Festival (Austria), Chopin Foundation Northwest Council Competition, Pacific NW Piano Competition. August also has multiple recordings on NPR Music’s Live Sessions.

An avid chamber musician, August was 1 of 18 selected to attend Seattle Chamber Music Society’s Academy where he was part of a piano trio under the primary guidance of Noah Geller. August, a self-taught composer has participated in the 2022 and 2023 Seattle Symphony Merriman-Ross Family Young Composers Workshop. The Seattle Symphony premiered his symphonic work, Chuseok Overture, in May 2023. Chuseok Overture had a second performance in January as part of Seattle Symphony’s 2023-2024 Season for their Celebrate Asia concert. August Baik’s compositions have also been presented at the Cornish Playhouse, Artist Trust Auction, and Benaroya Hall. August is a Monika Meyers Clowes Memorial Award and Ida Zelikovsky Green Award Recipient.
