Overall purpose: To provide a space where neurodivergents (millenials and Gen Z)from all kinds of backgrounds can gather together, have discussions, share, connect, and feel safe being themselves.
Who is this for?: This group is primarily aimed at Millenials and Gen Z’ers who are diagnosed with or suspect that they have a neurodivergent condition. These include autism, ADHD, dyslexia, among others. BIPOC are especially encouraged. Among neurodivergent groups in the Boston Area, there are disproportionately less individuals with BIPOC present in them. This group aims to encourage more in this particular demographic to come out and have the chance to experience a new community.
However, anyone, neurodivergent or not, BIPOC or not, is welcome to attend.
Duration: 2 hours
It's encouraged to bring a picnic blanket, water or snacks. Otherwise, people can come as they are.
The event is divided into three rounds:
Round 1: 1 on 1 Dialogue. Each attendee finds a partner (or groups of 3 depending on the number of people present). Partners will choose one question at a time from a choice of 3 or 4 lighthearted questions to answer. If time permits, they can answer them all, and go their own direction in the discussion. This round would be the shortest(warm-up). 30 minutes.
Round 2: Group Show-and-Tell. Members are encouraged to bring an item or prop that relates to a passion or special interest of theirs to share with other group members. Items are optional and people can simply discuss their interests. 35 minutes.
Group dialogue: This round involves being in groups and answering prompt questions, which will be provided at the event. The questions are related to life as a neurodivergent, and encourages members to communicate their opinions and philosophies in a judgement-free zone. 35 minutes.
End: Closing discussion and a group photo for all that are interested.
Breaks and sensory accomodations: There will be breaks lasting 10 minutes in between rounds to give people time to decompress and loosen up before the next round.
People are encouraged to excuse themselves as needed during a round to take a sensory break. Also, fidget/stim toys are encouraged if they help. We want everyone to feel comfortable and safe. Of course, if you need to leave the event early for any reason, that is completely understandable.
