Join Cancel the Rents Boston at 1pm on January 30 in Nubian Station for a National Day of Action speak-out to demand cancel the rents and mortgages!
The impacts of COVID-19 have resulted in a catastrophic climate of extreme insecurity and instability for tens of millions of working class people across the country. In Boston, thousands have lose their jobs, and mass evictions and foreclosures loom large on the horizon.
The eviction moratorium is not enough; it only kicks the can down the road. For months, thousands have not been able to pay their rent or mortgage; we haven’t had the money all this time, and it won’t magically appear! Only a full cancellation of rent and mortgages for tenants, homeowners, small landlords and small businesses will keep our communities safe.
No one should lose their housing for any reason in this crisis! Join us at 1pm on Saturday, January 30th in Nubian Station, for the National Day of Action to cancel the rents and mortgages!
Cancel the Rents Boston demands:
1. Governor Baker cancel all rents and mortgages for tenants, homeowners, small landlords and small businesses for the duration of the pandemic. No accumulation of rent debt!
2. National Grid and Eversource: cancel all gas and electricity payments retroactively to the start of the governor-mandated state of emergency. Governor Baker: make high speed internet a public utility. End all water payments.
3. Governor Baker use the power of eminent domain over vacant buildings, homes, hotels and all appropriate structures to house the homeless or people in precarious housing situations, including the undocumented and victims of domestic violence.
4. Full citizenship rights for all undocumented immigrants and their families. Deportation is the most violent form of eviction!
