This program is a continuation of Dina's seasonal Myofascial Release workshops. Some experience with receiving massage therapy, trigger point therapy, and/or myofascial release is recommended.
Practitioners will learn how to apply 2 tennis/bodywork balls for deep release into specific trigger points along the muscles. These common areas of discomfort, such as the neck, low back, shoulder and pectoral muscles are often precursors to symptoms like chronic headaches, sciatica, and shoulder instability.
Trigger points are specific regions in the body where tension knots have developed in the muscle fibers, often causing pain and limiting range of motion. When left unattended these 'knots' can lead to adhesions and widespread myofascial pain. Using pinpointed placement of tennis balls is akin to working with tiny foam rollers at the exact point of discomfort to unravel restricted fibers and restore function to the muscles and joints.
These bodywork techniques lead to a decrease in body aches and will calm the nervous system. We'll also look at pain pathways and how to relieve repetitive patterns of discomfort, as well as the anticipation of pain (chronic pain feedback loop). During class, we'll access 10 body regions where tension is most likely to occur.
Each student will be encouraged to take care of themselves with hydration, deep belly breathing, and breaks as needed. We will close with relaxation to assimilate the benefits of our program.
