This hike is rated as moderate/difficult and is a total of 9 miles long. It should take about 6-6.5 hours to complete. North Kinsman has an elevation of 4239' and South Kinsman is 4358' high. We will meet at the Lafayette campground in Franconia Notch State Park and take the Lonesome lake trail towards Lonesome lake. From here we'll take the Fishin' Jimmy Trail for 2 miles to the Kinsman Ridge Trail. We will follow this across North Kinsman to the summit of South Kinsman. We will retrace our steps back to the parking lot, but we can make a slight detour to check out the frozen over Kinsman Pond before heading back. New winter hikers can join as long as you have the right gear and know how to use it. I will give an update on the weather a few days before.


• What to bring
Full winter clothing (non-cotton layers, wind/rain shell, insulated boots, warm hat and gloves, etc.) Also have mountaineering snowshoes, microspikes or crampons, headlamps, plenty of food, and make sure your water won't freeze. Check this list, or ask me, if you are unsure what to wear or bring.
