Miss Otis Regrets, which takes its name from the classic Cole Porter song, is an hour-long one-man musical in two parts. A dark comedy styled after both 1950's-era radio broadcasts and modern-day podcasts, the show exemplifies the adage "history doesn't repeat itself but it often rhymes." The first half of the show follows the story of the fictional Carl Otis, a gay postal worker navigating the trials of the Lavender Scare. The second half is about Garner's own life, and the parallels which connect the two stories. Timed to coincide with the Boston Pride Festival, this show is a celebration of progress in the face of societal oppression.
