ABOUT SAINT CONSEQUENCE
Michael M. Weinstein's debut poetry collection, Saint Consequence, meditates on the body as a site of continuous change--both painful and beautiful, elected and imposed--to explore the often tangled journeys of physical and spiritual transformation.
What does it mean to inhabit a body--and for that body to inhabit our shared world, in all its complexity? Saint Consequence attempts to mine the gap between a life seen from the outside and the realities of a life lived. Influenced by time spent living in Siberia, Weinstein draws on experiences spanning gender transition, chronic illness, and disability to explore the tensions between public perception and private truth.
Ever wary of the temptation "to make a career of pain," (Adrienne Rich), these poems instead weave together personal experience and cross-cultural perspectives to invite us to reimagine our place in the world with greater nuance and compassion. Equally a personal reckoning and universal meditation on the complexities of identity, Saint Consequence expands from an examination of one man's singular experience of embodiment into a broader contemplation of the endless particularities of lives other than our own.
ABOUT THE POETS
Michael M. Weinstein is a poet, essayist, and scholar of twentieth-century literature and visual art. A proud member of the trans and disability communities, he lives in New York City. His debut poetry collection, Saint Consequence, is forthcoming from Alice James Books in 2025.
K. Iver (they/them) is a nonbinary trans poet born in Mississippi. Their book Short Film Starring My Beloved’s Red Bronco won the 2022 Ballard Spahr Prize for Poetry from Milkweed Editions. Short Film won the Wisconsin Book Award and was shortlisted for the L.A. Times Book Prize, the Kate Tufts Discovery Award, and the Lambda Literary Award. It was named a Best Book of 2023 by the New York Public Library. Iver’s poems have appeared in Boston Review, Kenyon Review, The L.A. Review of Books, and elsewhere. Iver has received fellowships from The Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, and the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation. They have a Ph.D. in Poetry from Florida State University.
PARKING
Porter Square Books: Cambridge Edition offers validated parking in the lot on Roseland St. behind Lesley's University Hall. Roseland Street is accessible by Beacon Street and Mass Ave. When you arrive at the lot, use the screen on the kiosk to get a ticket.
When you're ready to leave, ask for a validation barcode at the cash register. (No purchase necessary.) Parking is free on weekends and weekday evenings from 6PM-7AM. From 7AM-6PM on weekdays the first 45 minutes are free.
Upon exiting the lot, scan your ticket and choose "validation." Then scan the barcode your received from us. If you have an additional charge, you will be prompted to pay after scanning your barcode.
