Join MFA Film for a screening of Robert Mulligan’s "To Kill a Mockingbird" (1962) with special guest Annette Lemieux, whose Museum of Fine Arts, Boston exhibition "Annette Lemieux: Mise en Scéne" features new artworks based on the American classic.
Based on Harper Lee's novel of the same name, "To Kill a Mockingbird" tells the story of a black man named Tom Robinson (Brock Peters) who is wrongfully convicted and tried for rape in Alabama. The action unfolds through the eyes of Scout Finch (Mary Badham), whose father, Atticus Finch (Gregory Peck), agrees to be Tom’s lawyer. The court case exposes Scout and her brother Jem to the presence of racism and evil in their town.
After the film, join Lemieux for an in-gallery discussion about her exhibition. Lemieux is the recipient of the MFA's 2017 Maud Morgan Prize, a biennial award honoring a Massachusetts woman artist who has made significant contributions to the contemporary arts landscape. "Annette Lemieux: Mise en Scéne" debuts a new body of work inspired by films that Lemieux felt an affinity for as a child growing up in small-town America: "To Kill a Mockingbird," "Fahrenheit 451," "The Great Dictator" and "M."
A free ticket is required to attend the in-gallery discussion; these can be picked up from any MFA ticket desk starting at 6 pm, pending availability. The discussion begins at 9:25 pm in the Richard and Nancy Lubin Gallery, 263. A separate paid film ticket is required to attend the film.
