Before Queen’s frontman Freddie Mercury passed away of AIDS in 1991, he asked that the location of his ashes be kept a secret from the world. Guided by the gravity of fandom, one man believes he has found the remains of the fallen Star that have eluded fans for over twenty years. Inspired by real events, MERCURY’S ASHES shares how the weight of his discovery alters the orbit of a man’s life and irreversibly binds him to the greatest performer of the 20th Century.
Under the direction of Lian Amaris, actor Renzo Ampuero combines monologue, music, Brechtian storytelling, and visual language to create a fragmented portrait of an ordinary guy’s extraordinary encounter with a music idol. MERCURY’S ASHES explores the presentation of memory, confessions, and non-linear storytelling, in the spirit of Amaris’ previous works.
