The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) closes a portion Memorial Drive to motor vehicle traffic each weekend from the end of April to mid-November to allow pedestrians, cyclists, and others to enjoy the riverfront roadway without cars. The car-free area created by this closure is sometimes referred to as “Riverbend Park.”
Beginning on Sunday, April 26, 2026, and continuing through Sunday, November 8, 2026, weather permitting, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will close the segment of Memorial Drive from Western Avenue to JFK Street to vehicular traffic on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to open Riverbend Park for pedestrian and cyclist use. The section of Riverbend Park from Gerrys Landing Road to JFK Street will be closed to parkgoers for 2026 to ensure public safety while construction of the Memorial Drive Phase 3 Improvement project is ongoing.
