What is the difference between a memoir, biography, and personal essay? Have you ever wondered what is creative nonfiction anyway? Take this class to learn more about one of the most exciting fields of writing in contemporary literature. To write compelling true stories (nonfiction), you need to familiarize yourself with the basics of imaginative writing (creative), including character, voice, exposition, plot, imagery, and detail. We will read examples of published memoirs, long-form, flash, and micro-essays to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for this innovative genre. The class will include guided writing exercises with time for feedback and questions. This session will provide an overview of the genre and is ideal for anyone considering enrolling in one of my multi-week workshops, Writing in Curves or In Short: The Art of Flash Essay Instructor: Olga Katsovskiy
