Make time to create together at the Rose Art Museum. Inspired by the intimate paintings in Jenna Gribbon: Entwined, this participatory drawing workshop invites friends, partners, loved ones, and even new acquaintances to explore the shared experience of seeing and being seen. Through a series of playful drawing exercises, participants will alternate between artist and subject, discovering how careful observation, conversation, and reciprocity can deepen our connections with one another. Inspired by Gribbon's own use of snapshots on her cell phone to crop and compose her paintings, several exercises will also incorporate participants' phones as creative tools for framing, seeing, and drawing from unexpected perspectives.
Led by artist Ariel Freiberg, the workshop is open to adults of all skill levels, and all drawing materials will be provided. Bring someone special or come on your own. Solo participants will be paired with others, making this a welcoming opportunity to meet new people while experiencing Gribbon's exhibition in a fresh and meaningful way.
Space is limited to 20 participants, and advance registration is encouraged.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Ariel Freiberg is a Senior Lecturer of Fine Arts at Brandeis University. Her work explores the accelerators and brakes of sexuality through the suggestion of body and gesture. She has had multiple solo and group exhibitions including Faction Art Projects, Howard Yezerski Gallery, Samson Projects, Dartmouth College, Tufts Art Gallery, Northeastern University, Danforth Museum, and the Art Center of Macedonia. Her work has been reviewed in ARTnews, The Boston Globe, Big Red and Shiny, and featured in Modern Painters for the Ténot Fondation Residency at Camac Art Centre in France.
