Lunar Day

Come celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first humans landing on the moon with a jam-packed day of programming taking place throughout the Museum. Participate in hands-on activities, enjoy demos and lightning talks, watch moon “movies” on our big screen, and have the rare chance to see a moon rock on loan from NASA. On view, will be a special display of Apollo related artifacts. (See schedule below.)

We are especially thrilled to welcome the Apollo Guidance Computer (AGC) Restoration Team to the Museum, and see the results of their multi-year effort to restore the AGC #14 used for ground testing and man-rating of the Lunar Module in Houston. Unless you are an Apollo astronaut or part of the team that worked on the AGC and its software, this is the first time ever, to see this computer in action! A display will be open all day, and presentations at 11am and 2pm will allow for a deeper dive into how the computer works, and the challenges of restoring it.

From 1-3pm the Museum will offer special displays and short talks that highlight current research in space with guests from the MIT Haystack Observatory, the MIT Media Lab’s Space Group, and MIT AeroAstro.

That evening, join us for Moon Shots, a 21+ over-the-moon event with special guests, special spirits, and special activities.
